Foxfire - Keeping Firefighters Safe
Three of the biggest risks faced by firefighters are disorientation, visibility and accountability (to both individuals and tools). Foxfire® illuminating products were recently developed to assist firefighters in facing these risks by improving positional orientation, making personnel and tools easy to locate, and illuminating search areas.
What makes Foxfire products completely unique is the capability to serve as its own light emitter. Foxfire products utilize an advanced photoluminescent technology that possess the unique capacity to absorb and store light and then release it as a bright luminance in the dark (even in dark, smoke-filled rooms). When fully charged (by any light source), Foxfire products can glow for up to 17 hours.
Foxfire’s photoluminescent products were developed by firefighters who well understand the challenges and risks faced by firefighters. The growing product line includes an illuminating coating (paint) kit (for painting tools, equipment, hydrants, curbs and more); a glow-in-the-dark helmet band; illuminating grip wrap (to make tools and tool handles glow); and illuminating equipment bands for water bottles and cans.

“We used Foxfire helmets bands in a recent search and rescue training session. There was so much smoke you couldn’t even see your hand in front of your face. Yet we could clearly tell where our firefighters wearing the helmets bands were. It was amazing.”
-- Alex Maust, fire investigator, Jackson Township/Grove City Fire Department
“This is a win-win product. What makes the Foxfire products so unique is that they basically serve as their own light emitter. Not only does it help in locating tools and our crews in low visibility, but it also greatly improves our search and rescue techniques.”
-- Robert Rielage, chief of Wyoming (Ohio) Fire-EMS and former fire marshal in the state of Ohio
