Not for Profit Social Community

The Mac House was purchased in 2010 for $40,000 and is currently getting fixed up for it's newest residents. The Mac House was created to serve both the people of Mount Auburn and members of the intentional community. This project is currently seeking funds for repairs required in the home and for expansion into other homes. The leadership team has currently raised $54,000 of interest free loans from 6 different investors.

What is an intentional community you ask? It is a group of like-minded individuals living together for a purpose. The purpose here is to serve the neighborhood while also living environmentally and socially responsible lives.

The goal is to obtain residential members who are currently working for non-profits because they are already giving back to society. The house will provide affordable housing for these tenants while they live in a like-minded living community. This house, however, is not exclusively for people working in the public service sector, it can be for anyone who truly has the heart to serve others living in a simple way.

A great book on intentional communities is "The Irresistible Revolution" by Shane Claiborn. Although this intentional community is secular, this book has great principles that would be beneficial for anybody to read.

The reason this is innovative is because there are many blighted areas in Cincinnati with cheap housing. There are also many people passionate about serving those in these communities but they lack the funding to purchase homes. Living in a community like this provides support and safety for those living in these communities. All the profits will go to reinvesting into the community, projects, future homes and paying back the interest free loan. Important tenants could be those who are coming in the area for Americorps/JV and other short term service trips in Cincinnati.
